Statik PowerStand Cable Review: Is This Charging Cord Really Worth $20?Hands-on Review

Who says your phone has to lay flat while it’s charging? Not this cleverly designed accessory, which features fold-out metal arms.

What has your charging cord done for you lately? Probably just lain there, lazily ushering electrons from a USB port into your phone. Phhbbblllt.

The Statik PowerStand Cable aims to do more — and by “more” I mean one additional thing. Once it’s plugged in, two folding arms can swing out to hold your phone up — the better to read, watch videos, hop on a Zoom or the like while it’s charging.

And, yeah, that’s about it. This crafty cable sells for $20. Worth it? Let’s discuss.

(Credit: Rick Broida/DealSeek)

This is a 6.6-foot braided cord that feels very solid at the ends, meaning it should be able to survive years’ worth of use. (If you’ve ever used a cheap one, you know how flimsy they can be at the connectors — a common point of failure.)

The “business” end is a flat, 90-degree USB-C plug that doesn’t quite snug flush with the bottom of your phone. That’s by design; it extends just a bit so as not to block the speakers. In fact, the plug boasts “sound scoops” designed to angle audio toward you, but I can’t say these barely-there indentations did much. I listened to music and videos with and without the cable and couldn’t detect any real difference.

Statik claims the cord can transfer up to 240 watts of power, which is a spec you don’t often hear when discussing charging cables. Turns out a lot of them are limited to just 60 watts, which is fine for a phone or tablet — but if you want to use this to charge, say, a laptop, that extra capacity is welcome. (Just take note that you’d also need an AC adapter capable of delivering that kind of power. Not many of them do.)

The PowerCable fit just fine in my iPhone, despite the presence of a case that sometimes interferes with other cables. (Credit: Rick Broida/DealSeek)

So does it work as a stand? It does! I tested it with both my iPhone 17 (pictured above) and the even larger TCL Nxtpaper 70 Pro. Both phones stood upright just fine, or laid on their sides for landscape viewing. (Take note, however, that depending on how the cord is angled away from the phone, there could be enough pressure to make it fall flat — which is what happened the first couple times I tried landscape. The arms weren’t quite strong enough to compensate for that extra pull. Thankfully, a little cord rejiggering solved the problem.)

My only real complaint here is that you can’t adjust the viewing angle when the phone is upright. That wouldn’t really be possible given the nature of this mechanism, but it’s something to keep in mind.

And although you can charge other devices (tablets, laptops, etc.) with the cord, the “stand” part of the PowerStand is really for phones only.

The Statik PowerStand Cable isn’t going to radically improve your life; the “problem” it solves is really more of a minor inconvenience. That said, I like this cable, because I like anything that lets me use my phone hands-free. And $20 doesn’t seem overpriced given the sturdy build and two-year warranty. This would prove equally welcome on your desk and in your travel bag.

Statik PowerStand Cable

PROS:

  • Sturdy, braided cable
  • Extended USB-C plug accommodates most cases
  • Supports up to 240-watt charging
  • Integrated cord-wrap band
  • Two-year warranty

CONS:

  • Sound “scoops” don’t do much
  • No angle adjustment for portrait viewing

💡 VERDICT: A charging cord that’s also a phone stand? Yes, please. And $20 isn’t an unreasonable price given the rugged design. Still, for most users, this is more “nice to have” than “must have”.
