The best way to maximize savings at CVS is to separate your transactions to "roll" your ExtraBucks. Do a deal, get the ExtraBucks back, and use those ExtraBucks on your next transaction to lower your out-of-pocket cost. Rebate Apps You Need This Week
- CVS ExtraCare app — All digital coupons and your ExtraBucks live here. Clip everything before you go.
- Optional Ibotta scan — After you finish all 6 transactions, check Ibotta for any receipt-level rebates on the brands you bought.
- Optional Fetch scan — Snap every receipt to Fetch for points.
New to CVS Couponing?
If this is your first ExtraBucks roll, here is the playbook:
- Get an ExtraCare card in the CVS app or at the register — free. Every ExtraBuck reward attaches to your card.
- Clip ALL digital coupons in the CVS app before you shop. Coupons cannot be added after checkout.
- Do the transactions IN ORDER. Transaction 1 generates the $5 EB you use in Transaction 2, which generates the $4 EB you use in Transaction 3, and so on. You can't skip around.
- Wait for the ExtraBucks to print on your receipt before starting the next transaction. Some stores print them at the end of the receipt — check both sides.
- ExtraBucks have expiration dates. Most are good for 30-60 days, but check the date printed on each one so you don't lose them.
- You can do all 6 transactions in one trip — just check out separately each time. Some cashiers prefer if you step aside and come back to the register.
- The Ramen filler in Transaction 2 costs pennies — its whole job is to push the total high enough to absorb the $5 ExtraBuck. If you can't find it, ANY item under $0.50 works.
Tips for This Week's CVS Run
- The order matters. Do NOT try to combine transactions. Each transaction MUST print its ExtraBucks before you start the next one.
- Transaction 6 is your "kill the reward" trip. The $2 EB from T5 adjusts down to $1.99 (you don't get change back), so pick a $1.99 item that you'll actually use — Arm & Hammer detergent or OxiClean spray both work.
- Ramen filler is worth learning. $0.24 filler in Transaction 2 makes the whole $5 EB roll work. Keep a mental list of CVS's cheapest register items.
- Digital coupons stack with sale prices AND BOGO 50%. That's how the Axe transaction works — $7 off 2 on top of the BOGO 50% price gets you down to $1.23 after the rolling EB.
- BOGO 50% is NOT buy-one-get-one-free. You pay full price for one and 50% for the second. Sale-tag math still applies.
- If you already have ExtraBucks in your account, you can technically start at Transaction 1 with those instead of paying $6.97 out of pocket. That could take this whole run under $5.
- Print or screenshot this breakdown and bring it to the store. Six transactions is a lot to keep track of.
