How the Adjust-Down Coupons Work

Three scenarios use a coupon worth the full price of the item — the $3.50 Febreze Warmer coupon and the Palmolive BOGO coupon. Those coupons cannot take an item below $0.00, so the register lowers the coupon to match what the item costs after the $5 off $25 has been applied.

Dollar General spreads the $5 across every item in the basket proportionally. So an item takes a small share of the $5 first, and the coupon then adjusts to whatever is left:
